The Black Kingdom Is Finally Here
Updated: Sep 11
The Black Kingdom is officially published.
I can officially say it! My debut novel is now available on Amazon in both paperback and ebook, and knowing it is finally out in the world feels almost impossible to describe.
For so long, this story existed only as a collection of ideas, unfinished chapters and characters occupying far too much space in my head and clogging up countless documents on my laptop. It began with a simple journey: a knight delving into the underworld to save the innocent from the clutches of evil... but as the world grew, that journey became something much bigger and far more in-depth.
Publishing a debut novel is a strange mixture of excitement, pride and absolute terror.
Writing is usually such a private experience where you spend months, or years, alone with the story, making countless decisions that nobody else can see. You learn the characters’ fears, argue with their choices and carry their world around with you long after you have stepped away from the page. Then, suddenly, the book is finished. The private world becomes public and the characters no longer belong solely to the writer. Readers can finally meet them, judge them and perhaps even care about them.
The Black Kingdom is a dark-fantasy story about survival, sacrifice and loyalty, and follows people pushed into extraordinary circumstances where courage is costly and even the right decision can carry terrible consequences. There are brutal encounters, haunted landscapes and moments of overwhelming darkness, but, at its heart, this is a story about the fragile bonds between people. It asks how far someone might go to protect the innocent and the ones they love, what loyalty truly means when tested, and whether hope can survive in a place built to destroy it.

The one thing I didn't anticipate, and nor could I have, was the feeling I was left with come the end of this writing adventure. Publishing the novel also feels like saying goodbye to the story, to the world and to the characters who have lived with me for so long. Until now, they have been mine to revisit, reshape and protect, but releasing the book means letting them go and allowing them to belong to the readers instead. It brings a strange feeling of loss alongside the excitement, and although I am proud to see the story finally leave my hands, I'm also nervous about where it will go and how it will be received. It is both an ending and a beginning, a farewell to the private version of The Black Kingdom, and the start of its life in the world, and I can only hope it finds its way into people's hearts.
To everyone who encouraged me, offered feedback or simply asked how the book was progressing, thank you. Writing can be a lonely process, and every expression of interest helped carry the story closer to publication. There will be much more to share in the future, but until then I hope you will take the first journey into darkness with Ser Roderick and his company.
